The GDPR introduces new obligations for companies: inform the persons concerned of their rights, specific warranties in case of data transfer to a third country, the right to portability or reporting in case of profiling.

It is also a new practice to now take into account the data protection from the product design / service (“privacy by design”). Concretely, companies will have to focus from the R&D to the protection of personal data via an impact analysis. Each data processing should be systematically described, the related risks should be evaluated and if possible mitigated.

From a technical point of view, companies must have processes in place to detect defaults, alert the supervisory authority or the person concerned and take corrective action.
